Historical issues of The State newspaper are available in South Carolina Historical Newspapers which is provided through the NewsBank database. Follow these steps to find historical issues of The State on the Richland Library website:

  • Go to "Research it" and click Genealogy and Local History
  • Scroll down to South Carolina Historical Newspapers and click the title link
  • Enter your Richland Library card number and PIN

Once on the SCHN page, click "State" to browse through historical issues of The State from 1891 -2015. Or to search, enter a search term in the search box and enter a specific date or date range to narrow your search. The results will appear with a window showing your search terms in context. You may print, email or save the article as a PDF.

NewsBank has different newspaper modules. America's News contains text-only articles up to the present (post 1988) and South Carolina Historical Newspapers contains full-page images of historical newspapers.
