Trademarks and service marks are registered through the office of the South Carolina Secretary of State.  (For national trademarks, application must be made to the US Patent and Trademark Office.)  The mark must meet the conditions spelled out in the SC Trademark and Service Mark Statute (Code of Laws of South Carolina, 39-15-10 et seq.).  A registered mark should be renewed every five years.

The Application for Registration of a Trademark or Service Mark may be downloaded from the Secretary of State website.  Completed applications should be mailed to the following address.  For more information, contact the Secretary of State's office at (803)734-0629.
