Historical issues of The State (1891-present) and the Columbia Record (1909-1956) newspapers are available in South Carolina Historical Newspapers which is provided through the NewsBank database. Follow these steps to find historical issues of The State or the Columbia Record on the Richland Library website:

  • Go to Research & Learn and click Genealogy and Local History
  • Click See All
  • Click South Carolina Historical Newspapers Collection.
  • Enter your Richland Library card number and PIN if you are outside the library

Once you are signed in, click The State Collection on the right. Click Advanced Search to enter a search term in the search box and enter a specific date or date range to narrow your search.
