Richland Library, like most public libraries, uses multiple methods of handling withdrawn books and materials. The library makes every effort to use the most fiscally responsible and sustainable methods available. Richland Library distributes withdrawn items that are in good condition to over 79 sites throughout Richland County, with a focus on underserved areas.

We also collaborate with Better World Books, an organization that assists libraries in maximizing the lifespan of items through resale and distribution to at-need communities.

All realized revenue is cycled back to the library’s operating budget. Any other damaged or unusable items are responsibly recycled.
